Common-Input Heuristic

Rule of thumb: addresses signing the same TX are likely same owner

Category: Concepts Also known as: 2 Related terms: 3

Definition

From Meiklejohn et al. 2013. Addresses appearing as inputs in the same Bitcoin transaction are presumed co-owned (someone needed all the private keys to sign). High precision in practice; CoinJoin and PayJoin are exceptions we detect and exclude.

Context anchor

~99% precision when not in CoinJoin context; the basis for ~6.2M sender-clusters in our DB

Example

If 4 addresses sign the same TX, they're presumed controlled by the same party
